An 18 mile mostly downwind race from Cascade Locks to Hood River, Oregon. The race is famous for its big wind and big waves through the "windsurfing" sections of the river. This year did not disappoint, with strong winds from the start and full nuclear conditions as the racers approached the "half way" point at Viento State Park.
This year's winner is Mike Shalka who becomes the first name on the beautiful new perpetual trophy and, as well, set a new elapsed time record for this section of the river.
Given the conditions at Viento, the race committee wisely decided to call the event at Viento making this the first year ever the race was ended before Hood River!
